Medical coverage that is less expensive

This post is non-educational (unless I teach you something then maybe it is ☺). I know times are tough for many educators and their families right now. With budget cuts, job layoffs, a lack of pay raises, and rising costs of living expenses, people are looking at different options to cut back on monthly expenses. This is the reason I wanted to share one way our family has cut one of our monthly expenses in half.

My family has used Christian Care Medi-Share for our medical coverage for close to eight years. It is not labeled medical insurance since it is really Christians who pay other Christians medical expenses. Medi-Share is basically a voluntary cost-sharing program. In my personal opinion, it basically functions like other insurance plans I have used in the past and I really cannot tell a difference when I visit a physician. I still get a discounted rate if I visit a physician in-network, pay a percentage, have a deductible, and the other basics of the medical world.

For our family of 7, we pay $413.oo per month. We do have a deductible of $2,500. There are many different options available, and obviously the less you pay per month, the higher your annual deductible will be. We have only had to meet our deductible one year out of eight so this particular payment plan works well for our family.

We have not had any problems with Medi-Share covering our expenses and most of our friends use Medi-Share, too. We live in Southwest Florida where many people are self-employed and it is ridiculously expensive for them to get medical coverage. 

Medi-Share has a very large network of participating providers. Most of my family's physicians have been in their network.

One thing to keep in mind is they are very strict about accepting people with preexisting medical conditions.
