A Teacher's Prayer for Every Parent and Educator

A few years ago I posted HERE about a Teacher's Prayer that I found over twenty five years ago when I visited the oldest wooden schoolhouse in America that is located in St Augustine, FL.

I fell in love with this beautiful prayer, copied it on really nice parchment paper, framed it, and displayed it in my classroom a few years later when I began teaching in an elementary school. When I began homeschooling, I proudly displayed it in my dining room, which was my new school room.

I like the simplicity of this one that I had for two decades in my schoolroom. It looks authentic and a little rustic.
It is more than likely the oldest recorded Teacher's Prayer in the US, which makes it extra special. I love how it still applies to teachers and home educators today. This is why I have given it to many teachers that I have taught with, as well as my children's teachers. It makes a very unique gift.

This one I printed on some cute paper with borders for a teacher gift.
HERE is a copy if you'd like one. This one you can print on nice decorative paper. You can also copy and paste the prayer below and use your favorite fonts and background.

Teacher’s Prayer

I want to teach my children how
To live this life on earth,
To face its struggles and its strife
And to improve their worth.
Not just the lesson in a book
Or how the rivers flow,
But how to choose the proper path
Wherever they may go.
To understand eternal truth
And know right from wrong,
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song.
For if I help the world to grow
In wisdom and in grace,
Then I shall feel that I have won
And I have filled my place.
And so I ask Your guidance, God,
That I may do my part,
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart.

I made this one for a gift for a homeschool friend who likes lots of color.

HERE is a more decorated version of the prayer.

This is the one I have now as a centerpiece in the middle of our table. It is a double-sided frame that I love from Ikea.

The chalkboard prints are popular now. You can grab a copy HERE.
